It is completely normal for canvas prints to gather a little dust or dirt over time, depending on where they are displayed in your home. Because canvas has a naturally textured surface, it can sometimes catch particles more easily than smooth glass.
Here are the most common reasons your canvas might look a bit dirty:
-
Everyday Dust: Just like any piece of furniture or decor, normal household dust will slowly settle on the surface of your canvas over time.
-
Direct Contact: Touching the canvas with bare hands can transfer natural skin oils and microscopic dirt to the print.
-
Kitchen Grease & Smoke: If your canvas is hung in or near a kitchen, dining room, or fireplace, airborne cooking oils or smoke can accumulate on the surface.
-
Humidity: If hung in a humid area (like a bathroom), moisture in the air can cause dust to stick more stubbornly to the canvas material.
How to keep it clean
Don’t worry! Keeping your canvas looking fresh is very simple. We recommend gently dusting your canvas with a soft, dry microfiber cloth or a feather duster. Please avoid using water, damp cloths, or chemical cleaners, as these can permanently damage the ink and the canvas material!
