We understand that seeing an unexpected fee on your statement can be confusing. Since Oh Canvas serves customers globally, there are a few reasons why your bank might apply an international or “foreign transaction” fee:
1. Cross-Border Transactions
Oh Canvas is an international company. Even though you may be browsing in your local currency, our payment gateways are located in various regions (USA, Canada, UK, and Singapore). If your bank is in a different country than the gateway that processed your payment, they may classify it as a cross-border transaction.
2. International Payment Networks
We use Stripe and PayPal to ensure your payments are 100% secure. However, some banks charge administrative fees for any transaction that routes through an international payment network. This charge comes directly from your financial institution and is, unfortunately, outside of our control.
3. Currency Conversion
If your purchase required converting your local currency into the currency used by our payment processor, your bank or credit card issuer may have charged a small fee to cover the conversion costs.
4. How to Avoid Fees in the Future
-
Use PayPal: For many customers, using PayPal as the payment method helps avoid these specific bank-imposed international fees.
-
Check your Bank Policy: Every bank has different terms. We recommend contacting your bank or credit card provider directly to understand their specific international transaction policies.
